real wedding: kendel & adam

i'm a little late with this post as kendel and adam's wedding was recently featured on 100 layer cake.  i first met kendel last spring in her office conference room to chat about her wedding plans.  i liked her immediately -- she was confident, creative, organized and clear as to what she wanted.  like every bride, budget was a consideration but she was looking for an expert to help flesh out some ideas and introduce new ones.  enter me.  we talked and discussed as brides and designers do and when i saw her venue, i knew instantly that i wanted to incorporate confetti systems into the event design.

kendel and adam were married at invisible dog, an art gallery in brooklyn.  the space was carved into vignettes to accomodate their entire celebration.  the ceremony was in the round so they were literally surrounded by their loved ones, with the family and music-filled reception immediately following.

designing and installing decor is one thing but seeing it all come together is a different deal altogether.  though i was there in the early part of the day and at the end for breakdown, the people give it context.  looking at lauren's photos, i can feel the warmth, love and all that happy.  looks perfect.  congratulations again kendel and adam.  lovely day, lovely life together.  x

real wedding: mira and ricardo

i like that i flower for love and i like when i flower for friends so when the two come together...well, i'm pretty damn happy.  mira is a dear friend and because of his love of mira, ricardo has become one too.  they were married about six weeks ago at city hall and theirs was an intimate celebration, both the ceremony and afters, shared with close friends and loved ones in their beloved brooklyn {if you follow me on instagram, then you've seen some of my snaps}.  their wedding day was recently featured on brooklyn bride but i thought i'd share some of my favorites here. one of the sweetest, loveliest, most romantic moments ever was when mira serenaded ricardo with the ukelele he gifted her.

congratulations again mira and ricardo.  wishing you a lifetime of blue moons, dreams of the heart and love, love, love together, forever.  xxox

real wedding: ellen & paul

what up groove bunnies...it's been a minute but i'm back with goodies. sharing some of my favorites images from ellen and paul's wedding, featured on grey likes weddings earlier this week.  it was a classic new york affair -- drop-off at the pierre, ceremony in a beautiful church, photos along fifth avenue, reception at rockefeller center...
and though the cafe au laits say fall, the palette is decidedly spring -- all that's missing are the flowering trees.

congratulations again ellen and paul. love wins one more time. for the full grey likes weddings post, click here.

28 February 2013

the three q's

last day of february and i feel like the year is flying.  am so sincerely over winter's baltic temps but i'm loving quince and all her iterations.  i like that my livelihood is so seasonally-based.  reminds me to be in the present and in the moment.  nothing wrong with looking forward to new things but since the future isn't promised, it's good to just marinate on where you are right now and just be.

but the light is changing and it's hard not be excited for spring.  while i've been working on a few projects here and there and the consults are starting to pick up {calendar is not nearly booked and still have spring dates available}, my season starts in earnest in april.  but in the meantime, i'm enjoying the quince, the quiet and my quotidian existence.  also helps that i'm heading to paris later this eve for some fashion moments too.

real wedding: danielle & jeremy

sharing images from danielle and jeremy's september wedding at the green building, currently being featured on merci new york.  also sharing some behind the scenes photos taken from the day.  as always, we were busy -- lots of onsite work to do, including designing and installing a 20+ foot ribbon and light backdrop using only one ladder.  shout out to jen for risking life and limb so i can realize my vision and to the rest of the team for getting it all done while i managed it.  whenever i see a can of san pelligrino aranciata rossa, i'm reminded of that day...

so here's the thing about wedding photos -- sadly, we vendors are at the mercy of photographers.  i've said it before...i suck at taking the time to photograph my work during event set-up.  and it's just as well because most potential clients want to see the work in context, i.e. in the venue, at the event, with people.  this means that we're chasing photographers {sometimes for a year plus} to see images, only to find that they didn't take photos of the flowers and/or the photos are crap.  you work so bloody hard and you practically have nothing to show for it but a couple of instagram shots and chronic back pain.  totally heartbreaking and soul-crushing homies.  but thank god that was not the case for this wedding.  danielle and jeremy hired oak street studio, who took beautiful photos and i hired clay williams, who took great images as we set up.  i'm learning...

anyway, check out the full post on merci new york if you have the time.
and congratulations again to danielle and jeremy.  wishing you a long, healthy and blissful love. x

29 January 2013

hey girl/boy...

happy 2013.  it's still january so in my mind, new year's greetings are still acceptable.  we'll state the obvious...it's been a minute since i've blogged.  honestly, i haven't felt like it.  probably not a nice thing to hear but it's the truth.  i promised myself way back when that i would only write when i had something to say and not out of obligation.  keeping true to that.

so like most, i've spent the last month starting the new year off in my way of right.  i didn't do resolutions but i did set five intentions -- five beautiful things that i will continually work on making happen during the next twelve months.  five is a pretty manageable number and it's been a great way to start each day.  i feel very purposeful. also taking advantage of the quiet and unplugging when i can.  so much of me is invested in my business and i need to save some more of me for me, if that makes sense.  it's just too hard otherwise.

anyway, the accompanying photos don't relate at all to the above but since i haven't written until now, it needed to be said.  back the photos...they are from a trent bailey bridal fashion shoot being featured on style me pretty today.  i loved that hellebore boutonniere.  i loved bouquet flowers too but i really loved the bout.  can't wait for those flowers to come into season again...
