thank god i'm walking lots...

please indulge me while i turn this into a food blog.  i am in paris, after all...

i prefer savory over sweet but if i stay in paris much longer, that might change dramatically.  the pastries, baked goods, desserts here are just way better and totally worth the calories -- not sure if it's the sugar, the butter, the water, the ovens, the climate, probably a combination of it all.  yesterday, at the suggestion of my friend katherine, a talented pastry chef in her own right, i visited pierre hermé's boutique in st. germain des près. chef hermé is often referred to as the 'picasso of pastry' and i totally see why.  wow wow wow!

know that laduree's macarons and pastries are beloved but they've totally been supplanted in my eyes.

this is the croissant ispahan -- a buttery, lightly glaced croissant filled with a rose-raspberry paté and topped with candied rose petals.  what the?!  i think it's a work of art, both visually and foodily {not a word but the occasion calls for it}.  biting into it was a moment, a sublime and proustian one.  like when i have it again {and trust, i will}, i will totally remember where i was, what i was wearing {okay, i always remember that, true story} and that the wind was blowing northwest.  it was that profound and surreally beautiful.

couldn't take photos of the interior nor the desserts so you'll have to settle for the cheeky window.  or better yet, go visit yourself.  now i have to go run around the block a few times, followed by some crunches, not that i'm complaining...
